The Yorkshire squad of Fiona Moverley (Hull), Lauren Siddall (Pontefract), Katie Smith(Pontefract) Hannah Shipley (Pontefract) and Emma Campion (Pontefract) began the Premier Finals weekend at Nottingham on 4-5 May with a bye, Kent having withdrawn.
They then met Cheshire who have held the title for the last 3 years and who had beaten Gloucestershire 4-1 in the quarters. Also through to the semis were Surrey with a 5-0 win over Middlesex and Northumberland who had beaten Essex 4-1.
First on court, Emma at 5th string won a tight 3-2 match against Annie Openshaw-Blower, after trailing 2 games to one. Katie just missed out to Olivia Howell losing 15-13 in the 5th game. Although Hannah lost to Kirsty West, Fiona and Lauren had comfortable 3-0 wins against Rachel Chadwick and Jess Davies. So with a 3-2 win, Yorkshire were through to the finals to meet Northumberland who had beaten Surrey 4-1 in the other semi final.
In the final, the match went down to the wire, 2 games all with 4th and 5th strings to Northumberland. Emma lost to Emma Gregson 3-0 and Hannah lost 3-1 to Hannah Clift. A strong top order then saw the team through to a 3-2 victory as Fiona(1), Lauren(2) and Katie(3) all had comfortable 3-0 wins over Lucy Beecroft, Kim Hay and Sam Ward respectively.
So Yorkshire won the title which they had previously gained in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
A good weekend was enjoyed by all, with Emma at 15 making her debut in the Premier team, Lauren being available to play for her home county whilst on annual leave from her studies in South Africa and a welcome return for Fiona who rejoined the WSA Tour last May.
