Five counties shared the spoils at the 2018/19 Junior Inter County Championships in Nottingham at the weekend as players from Yorkshire, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Lancashire lifted the coveted titles.
Yorkshire and Surrey claimed three titles each with Sussex lifting two and Lancashire and Hampshire clinching one.
There were fist pumps and screams galore as 467 players representing 124 teams cheered on their fellow county team mates in the main draw and plate finals with competitors demonstrating remarkable team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the weekend.
Egypt dominate Squash Player’s 2018 awards, which are announced in the magazine’s final issue of the year, heading four of the nine categories.
Mohamed ElShorbagy and Nour El Sherbini are named Players of the Year, while Hania El Hammamy is one of the Young Players of the Year and Egypt’s Women’s World Championship-winning squad are Team of the Year.
There are also awards for Surprise of the Year (Miguel Angel Rodriguez’s British Open triumph), Highlight of the Year (James Willstrop’s Commonwealth Games singles gold medal), Comeback of the Year (Low Wee Wern) and Most Improved Player of the Year (Simon Rosner).
Meanwhile, readers selected Steve Line’s picture of Amanda Sobhy standing over a beaten Nour El Tayeb at the U.S. Open as the magazine’s Photo of the Year.
